Professor Pat Buckley

Research Consultant

"AMR’s reach is everywhere."

Pat Buckley is no stranger to the dynamic world of research. As the head of her own consultancy, she navigates the intersections of universities, government, and industry, shaping research development, training, and workforce planning with insight and expertise. Her career has been anything but linear—after leading a research institute, transforming graduate training, and spearheading researcher development in the university sector, branching out on her own was the natural next step.

Pat has been part of SAAFE CRC since its inception, designing its tailored Scholars Education & Training program and serving on the Education & Training Committee. She is a firm believer in the power of CRCs to elevate industry-led research in Australia, and she’s committed to cultivating the next generation of One Health AMR research leaders.

No two days look the same for Pat—except that research is always at the heart of them. Whether she’s immersed in data, designing new initiatives, or exploring the vast landscape of knowledge, she brings a deep sense of purpose to her work.

Beyond research, Pat finds her balance by the ocean, diving into a good book, experimenting in the kitchen, or watching the spark of curiosity in young minds. If she could share a meal with anyone, it would be with those who hold an unshakeable moral compass—figures like Mary Robinson, the first female president of Ireland. Pat carries with her a touch of Irish wit and wisdom, exemplified in the words of W.B. Yeats: "Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy, which sustained him through temporary periods of joy."
