Australia’s Cooperative Research Centre for Solving Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Agribusiness, Food and Environments (SAAFE) brings together forward-thinking industries with leading research organisations and government agencies to tackle AMR using a coordinated and cross-sectoral approach.
Together, we are committed to protecting Australia’s food and agribusiness industries, and the environments in which they operate, from the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.
Working with partner organisations that represent diverse areas ranging from viticulture, aquaculture and horticulture, to the water, organic waste, stockfeed and animal industries, SAAFE will, by 2033, invest more than $150M into collaborative research to mitigate AMR, helping partners develop, share and implement solutions.

Our work is underpinned by a One Health approach which recognises the interconnection between people, animals, plants and their shared environments. This One Health approach to AMR sees coordinated action across all sectors where antimicrobials are used.

SAAFE will facilitate best practice AMR stewardship in the agribusiness, food and environmental sectors. This will help Australia secure and diversify export markets and strengthen biosecurity. As the host of EDAR7, the McGill AMR Centre is proud to sponsor EDAR8 and support the global One Health AMR community.
Founded in 2021, the centre brings together a diverse scientific community of 60 faculty members from 30 departments across the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Science, Engineering, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at McGill University (Canada).
The McGill AMR Centre fosters interdisciplinary research and training across fundamental, applied, clinical and epidemiological sciences on AMR, builds collaborations and partnerships, and accelerates research translation and innovations. We provide training and support trainees through partnerships with the McGill Institutes in Global Health and CAN-AMR-Net among others. Our trainee-led AMR outreach team promotes awareness through outreach activities, public engagement and social media. AMR Industry Alliance
The AMR Industry Alliance is one of the largest private sector coalitions set up to provide sustainable solutions to curb antimicrobial resistance. The Alliance, comprised of more than 75 biotechnology, diagnostics, generics, research-based pharmaceutical companies and trade associations, facilitates collaboration, reports on the industry’s contribution to the fight against AMR, and engages with external stakeholders. The Alliance seeks to contribute sustainable solutions to curb antimicrobial resistance by creating broad industry momentum and facilitating collaboration between the public and private sectors.
The Alliance coordinates global efforts across four main pillars:
- Research & Science: Investing in R&D to develop innovative vaccines, treatments, and diagnostics.
- Access: Improving patient access to high-quality, effective antibiotics and ensuring new medications are globally available.
- Appropriate Use: Promoting global stewardship and educating healthcare professionals on the proper, targeted use of antibiotics to prevent resistance.
- Responsible Manufacturing: Working to minimize the environmental impact of antibiotic production.
