Aims: To introduce and upskill participants in using design thinking to better understand and address the environmental dimensions of antimicrobial resistance

Background: AMR is a complex, cross-sectional One Health challenge that no single discipline can solve alone. Design thinking is an iterative, human-centred approach to co-design. It helps us to build empathy and better understand ill-defined problems - focussing on collaboration and rapid prototyping to generate and test innovative solutions in a pragmatic, cost-effective way.

Workshop Participants and Activity: Open to participants across research, policy and industry at all levels. The session combines short presentations and case studies with hands-on group activities. We will work through a hypothetical AMR scenario in small teams using templates from a design thinking toolkit being developed by SAAFE CRC with UNEP.

Participants will:

Learn the five phases of design thinking (empathise, define, ideate, prototype, test) and how to apply them to AMR challenges
Practise the approach through hands-on, collaborative group work
Receive access to the design thinking toolkit to apply in their own projects
